A discussion in Advise.Us is simply a set of questions around a topic of your choice. Think of it a bit like a survey, but with the ability to actually talk to the people responding and (optionally) prompt a group discussion.
For example, let’s imagine you are a software company seeking feedback from your users on a new feature. You might launch a discussion called “Thoughts on a New Feature,” which includes a structured, sequential set of questions asking for individual or group feedback about the feature.
An “open” discussion is a discussion that is still available for your advisory board members to respond to.
When you no longer wish to receive feedback on a given discussion you simply “close” the discussion (with one click in the application).
The discussion will still be visible to you and your fellow moderators or observers, but will no longer be visible to your advisory board members.
You can also re-open a discussion at any time in the future.
Core features include branding (adding your logo and brand colors), sequential discussion questions, unbiased reply mode, interview reply mode, open and closed-ended question modes, profile surveys, transcript exports to CSV files, media (photo and embedded video) attachments and updates.

The “Member Segments” feature enables you to create highly targeted sub-segments of your advisory board members and then make selected discussions available/visible only to those sub-segments.
For example, let’s say you have three customer personas. You can create separate segments for each persona and then push separate, targeted discussions to each segment.
Segments can built around member attributes imported from a spreadsheet, questions asked during registration and/or responses to single or multiple choice discussion questions.
Segment names and attributes are never visible to your members.
